about darby
it’s hard to describe who we are,
what we do, & why we do it…
Photography has been in my life for many years…
It’s impact continually pushes me to capture the realness within connection between people. The emotion, the silly, the spontaneous, the playful, the pure, the shy, the everything. People are truly fascinating.
This is why I hold a strong focus on portraiture. There are many elements to creating a photograph; layers of purpose that add to the story being captured. Photography has given me an outlet to share what I see and then describe it to the world in a single frame.
It’s me, my camera, and you, surrounded by the people you love.

fun facts
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PHOTOGRApHER?
I First Picked Up A Camera At 16 and Discovered A Passion For Creating Photographs Instantly. After Travelling Around Europe With My First Slr I Came Home Wanting To Learn More. A Few Night Classes Later And Many Hours Spent In A Darkroom I Found Myself Moving Across The Country To Study Photography In Victoria, Bc. After Moving To Whistler In 2009 I Quickly Gravitated Towards Portraiture And Began Developing A Portfolio That I Could Be Proud Of. I Took The Leap To Start My Own Business in 2011 And I’ve Been Riding An Epic Wave Ever Since.
do you ever daydream about another profession?
Absolutely! I Think About How I Can Be Creative In Many Other Ways Beyond Photography often. I’ve Always Had An Interest In Interior Design. I Remember Creating My Own Blueprints As Young As The Age Of 9. Spatial Planning And Creating Function Out Of Disfunction Is Something I Genuinely Enjoy. I Also Married A Carpenter, Which Helps When I Want To Execute Little Projects Around The House!
Name a favourite childhood memory
One Of My Favourite Childhood Memories Was Helping My Dad Select The Music For Dinnertime. He Had A 6-Disc Changer So My Brother And I Got To each Choose An Album. I Suppose The Idea Of Being Able To Look Through My Dad’s Album Collection And Select Music In Itself Was Enjoyable, But The True Essence In What Made My Heart Swell Was The Sound Of The Player’s Motor Grinding To Change To The Next Disc. That Sound Will Forever Be Embedded In My Brain. I Still May Or May Not Collect CD’s.
who is your favourite photographer and why?
There are many photographers who inspire me regularly. i love collecting photo books and flipping through them often. however, i always come back to linda mccartney. her collection of photographs in “roadworks” showcases life on the road: a unique variation of street photography that has had me hanging out of car windows with my camera for over a decade.
don’t try it at home kids.
