A False Creek engagement photography session was an ideal spot for this incredible couple. They were living on their sailboat right in False Creek, enjoying every ounce of being oceanside and right in the heart of Vancouver. When we first met through Skype, the sails and skyline were in the backdrop and I remember feeling dreamy of their lifestyle on a boat. They expressed then that they wanted their engagement session to speak to their adventurous lifestyle. Incorporating the boat and surroundings was a no brainer.
We discussed taking a few photos along the seawall first to provide a bit movement and nature into their session. It’s always a good idea to think about how we can bring diversity into any portrait session. The more movement I can get the better too as it helps to loosen the nerves. After their warm up we would get on the boat and putter into English Bay which made me extremely giddy. To experience a part of Vancouver this way made me feel so grateful. It’s not often I get to be a on a boat out in the ocean overlooking a gorgeous skyline!
In all honesty, I had never been on a sailboat before, so the idea of photographing these two on board was a dream come true. Nothing says romance like drinking a bottle of bubbles with your loved one while being in English Bay during sunset.
I had yet to photograph a False Creek engagement session before and I always look forward to photographing in new locations. The trees were blooming and everyone was enjoying the first sign of summer; warm sunny weather had arrived. Vancouver has so much green space, which is always a bonus in a large city. As much as I enjoy photographing in urban spaces, I know a lot of my Vancouver clients want to incorporate nature as much as possible into their sessions. After all, it’s a huge factor as to why we all live on this beautiful coast!
As a wedding photographer, I spend a lot of time with my couples on their big day. During the intimate and emotional moments and documenting their story, I believe its important that we have a foundational connection. Engagement sessions are something I strongly encourage as it provides us with the opportunity to get to know one another better. We can also make time to grab a coffee or beer afterwards and chat about the wedding too. Not a bad way to spend an engagement session! Check out more of my couple’s portraits here to get a sense of some of the fun we can have during your session!
