A Sea to Sky proposal in beautiful Squamish, BC holds the perfect backdrops to celebrate such a momentous moment. I mean, I may be a bit bias but this corridor continues to stun me with its beauty. I’ve paired up with Sea to Sky Air to capture loved ones getting engaged at the discreetly gorgeous Phantom Lake. Have you ever been in a float plane before? You feel like an amphibian taking off on land, then escaping into water, it’s a remarkable experience.
Shahid and I had been plotting their proposal for a couple months so when I finally got to meet Kana in person, it was hard to hold back my smile. We set off on a 15 minute journey above the beautiful Squamish Valley over the Tantalus Range. Epic mountain views, waterfalls, and glacier fed lakes kept our eyes from blinking. Everything was in place to document this momentous moment. We landed on Phantom Lake and as Shahid got down on one knee, I began to photograph. Kana’s face filled with happy tears as Shahid told her the story of how he asked her parents permission for marriage. It’s these moments that tug on my heart strings. Traditions that have carried on, that weigh with great respect and honour.
Bubbles for celebration and portraits taken on the mountain, then back to the valley we went. Shahid had packed dresses for her to wear and they quickly changed so we could begin the second half of their session. I took them to one of my favourite spots in Squamish and no matter how over rated it may seem the views of the Chief can’t be beat. With the tide low and a full rainbow above us we chatted and laughed together. I had so much fun with these two in front of my lens and their connection was very apparent. Here are a few captures from their story.
