A couple weeks back I got to photograph an intimate elopement here in Whistler at the Stone Circle overlooking Alta Lake. This location has become quite popular over the last 5 years and when you see it in person, you really begin to understand why. Tucked away in the beautiful forest, a path leads you to the circle with openings of mountain and lake views on either side. Even though this location is quite central, it is very secluded and can be booked through the municipality to ensure your access and privacy.
Caitlynn and Vince have a love for the mountains and came to Whistler to share this celebration with their immediate family and mother nature. Their initial plans were to elope on a mountain top through Blackcomb Helicopters, however the wet, foggy day forced them to go with their plan B, which in Whistler is never a bad back up plan. I love fog and cool tones for portraits. The lake was calm, the fog was high enough to see the mountains, the trees were dewy, and all the green moss was saturated. The bride came equipped with hiking shoes ready to explore and get a bit dirty. I love it when brides are open to an adventure. After all, you only get to wear your dress once! Why not get the shots you envision and have fun doing it!?
Their ceremony was led by Vince’s brother and they both read out pages of personal vows. I feel like there are never enough words to describe what you want to express when you marry your best friend. So, when my couples bring out pages of text and have a laugh about the amount of content they want to share, I can’t help but feel giddy. Listening in on something so personal, so profound, it truly gives you goosebumps. And hey, maybe it was also a bit of the cold air contributing to those goosebumps, but needless to say it was a beautiful West Coast Whistler elopement.
