warming up in front of the camera
With every engagement session I always explain to my couples about the warm-up period. Not just for them but also for me. It’s important we have this time to shake out all the cobwebs, start letting our guards down, and learn a bit more about each other. That’s how we can connect on a deeper level. Once that comfort and trust gets established, the photo session transitions to a more playful and less daunting experience. Just like this Sunshine Coast BC engagement, our first 20 minutes were spent giggling and getting use to direction. It helps to have your partner by your side, so you can feel awkward together while embracing the camera. I would be lying if I didn’t say it can feel weird in the beginning, but I promise after a bit of warm-up it begins to feel natural again.
exploring multiple locations
When booking in an engagement session, you have two options: 1 hour or 2 hours. The 2 hour session allows us to explore multiple locations and gives you the opportunity for an outfit change. Now, this doesn’t mean one is better than the other. It truly comes down to your needs and how you envision the outcome of the photographs. We can get some beautiful imagery within an hour’s session, however, if you would like to a bit more variety in backdrops and style, the 2 hours may be the best option for you.
Whether your Engagement session is on the Sunshine Coast of BC or in the Sea to Sky area like Squamish or Whistler, we can find unique and private locations to explore together. In our initial communication we can discuss your preferences whether it be ocean views, mountain views, tucked away in the forest, or against an urban setting. From there we will determine the coverage and then finalize the location(s) leading up to the day. Mother nature can play a role sometimes as to where we end up, but know that I am constantly scouting and looking for location alternatives. If you have a sentimental spot or concept in mind, I’m keen too!
take in the moment
Towards the end of the session you will feel a shift in how you both are in front of the camera. The warm-up period is over and a more relaxed version of you appears. This it when I remind my couples to take a breath, take in the views, and just be. Life is busy and planning a wedding can feel overwhelming at times. I want all my couples to have these moments where they can be present and remember what they are actually celebrating: their love and connection.
