Being a West Coast bride myself and photographing countless weddings here in British Columbia, I can tell you first hand how incredible the landscape is. This post isn’t to highlight the beauty of our surrounding nature in the Sea to Sky Corridor however, but to highlight the beauty in those fleeting moments a bride experiences on her wedding day on the West Coast.
When photographing a wedding there are many formalities and “epic” moments that get documented throughout the day. Yet, to me the true spirit of any celebration is the in-between emotions being felt. These are the unexpected and transient moments that curate your story. They can bring you back to relive those special connections.
One of the most important rituals as a lover of photographs is to reflect on past work. A lot of the images captured throughout the year end up on hard drives or cloud storage. These images may not make it into my portfolio or on my social media feed, but they still hold great importance.
I began diving into past weddings and pulling out some of my favourite moments of brides on their wedding day. It was tricky to cull through the images as I began to go back a few years… I had to cut myself off at some point. To those lovely West Coast brides who didn’t make the cut, make no mistake your images have inspired me in more ways then one.
Reflecting back can really help you to see the growth first hand and the small incremental shifts your work shows with the gain of more experience. These images show a glimpse into the emotional and physical connection we share with our loved ones. Candid and special moments all documented for my couples. It truly is one of the many reasons I love my job: being welcomed into the intimacy of a wedding day.
Brace yourself for a longer post, but I hope all the silly smiles and present stillness help you make it to the end. A tribute to my past brides in hopes to inspire a future West Coast bride.
