one of the best ways to get married in Whistler
Winter weddings in Whistler are a true reflection of this incredible mountain town. After living here for over 15 years, you come to truly love winter. With the stillness the snow brings and the moody fog rolling around the mountain tops, it’s no wonder Whistler has become one of the best places to host a winter wedding.
For Justine and Spencer, that calm, grounded energy is exactly what they were going for: a day that reflected them, in a place that felt real. They chose Nita Lake Lodge for its mix of cozy and modern. Tucked beside Nita lake, surrounded by snow-dusted trees and the peaks of Whistler Blackcomb, it gave their wedding the kind of natural backdrop that everyone could appreciate.
Nita Lake Lodge is structured with a very west coast aesthetic. The hotel has many outdoor options that are covered which works well in both wet weather and hot summer days. Incorporating the architecture into the portraits is always a must and it can make it very convenient for first looks and family photos as well. Inside, they offer a range of suites to provide you with the perfect space for you and your wedding party to get ready in. They also have an incredible spa for you and your guests to enjoy without having to leave the hotel. Definitely a bonus!
winter ceremony under the Porte-cochère
The Lodge offers several indoor and outdoor ceremony locations providing spaces for weddings up to 130 guests. The Porte-cochère features an architectural design of Douglas-fir with decorative accents in western red cedar and has a prime view of Whistler Mountain. The perfect backdrop for any winter wedding.
getting cozy with your winter portraits
winter weather is the perfect excuse to cuddle up next to your loved one during your wedding portraits. Getting cozy with one another and embracing the elements is key to having success in front of the camera. Wearing warm footwear and planning on a jacket that can go with your attire will also help brave the cold. We can take breaks along the way, bring warm drinks, and of course plan some indoor options if necessary. That being said, getting married in Whistler is all about the outdoors, so if you can plan accordingly for any weather pattern, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
In choosing Nita Lake Lodge, Justine and Spencer didn’t even have to leave the venue to go to any other additional locations for their portraits. Walking around the property and exploring the lakeside venue gave us plenty of stunning backdrops for their portrait session.
romantic winter wedding reception
When planning your Whistler winter wedding be conscious of the limited daylight. It’s important to create a timeline that can work with your vendors and also provide ample natural light for your portraits. Your wedding planner and Photographer can work together to curate a timeline that works with everyone. Whether you plan to do a first look or family photos prior to the ceremony, there are many ways to utilize the daylight as much as possible.
Keep in mind that in the evening there will be plenty of time to get cozy and moody photographs. Between the candle light at dinner and some evening Ambient light portraits, you will have stunning imagery that reflects the time of year. Justine and Spencer hosted an earlier dinner follwed by some portraits around the outdoor fire and string lights. It was the perfect compliment to their early afternoon celebrations and set the tone for the rest of the night.
